Super Bowl LIX Ring Ceremony

The brief

Majic was asked to create several custom pieces for the Eagles' private Super Bowl LIX ring ceremony in Philadelphia, including table centerpieces that hid a surprise: each player's championship ring.

My role

I led the design and prototyping of the reveal centerpieces, then handed production off to a subcontractor for the volume build. I also built a 16-foot custom dance floor and a display case for the Lombardi Trophy.

The challenge

We had just three weeks from start to finish. Each centerpiece had to pass as a floral display, sit in front of a player all evening without giving anything away, and then open on cue. The client also specified exactly how the reveal should feel: after a press on the push latch, the door had to lower slowly and come to rest flush with the base so the ring box could slide right out. Finding a soft-open mechanism small enough to fit inside the centerpiece, in the quantity we needed, was complicated by import delays.

How I delivered

I worked through six rounds of prototypes to dial in the concealment, the push-latch release, and the slow, flush-landing door. While refining the design, I kept hunting for hardware and found a distributor at the eleventh hour who could supply the soft-open mechanisms at volume. Once the design was locked, I packaged it for a production subcontractor to build out the full set on schedule.

The result

At a set moment during dinner, players pressed the sides of their centerpieces and the doors lowered to reveal their rings, which had been sitting right in front of them the whole time.
